Presenter Profile

Ms Anita Russell

Speech Pathologist and Director, Autism Intervention, Training & Consultancy Division, Autism Resource Centre (S), Singapore
A practicing speech-language pathologist since 1983, Ms Anita Russell has undergone higher training in the areas of cognition, language and social interaction in autism, parent training / coaching, and diagnosis and treatment in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Ms Russell has worked with adults, adolescents and children with autism throughout her career in various clinical, school and community settings.

From 1996 to 2002, Ms Russell directed the multi-disciplinary Anita Russell Communication Therapy Centre that specialised in the provision of individual, group, classroom communication and social interaction intervention programmes for children on the autism spectrum.

Ms Anita currently holds the position of Senior Consultant at Autism Resource Centre (Singapore), where she heads the Autism Intervention, Training and Consultancy (AITC) division. Her primary professional scope includes review and development of best practice autism intervention programmes as well as research and development of initiatives for supporting and teaching students with autism at the pre-school and primary school levels. Ms Russell also plays a key role in the provision of specialist autism training and coaching of parents, caregivers and professionals.

Ms Alina Chua

Consultant & Psychologist, Autism Resource Centre (S) and Pathlight School, Singapore
Ms Alina Chua is a psychologist by training and holds a Bachelor of Social Science, 2nd Class Upper Honours degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS).

A clinical doctoral candidate, she has extensive experience in working with individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. An extremely skilled therapist and clinician, she has developed and implemented numerous programmes relating to social skills and problem-solving for individuals with autism.

Ms Chua has also developed teaching protocols for various social tools, which were successfully implemented for individuals with Asperger and High Functioning Autism.

Apart from her clinical experience, Ms Chua had held tutoring appointments in Australian universities.

Ms Chua currently holds the position of Consultant at Pathlight School, the first autism school in Singapore offering a unique blend of mainstream academics and life skills. She is intimately involved in and a valued member of the Secondary School academic and curricula team in Pathlight School. Ms Chua consults with Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) and is one of the key consultants providing specialist autism training and coaching to professionals, teachers and educators as well as parents and caregivers in a wide variety of autism-related subjects.

Dr Lam Chee Meng

Senior Consultant & Psychologist, Autism Resource Centre (S), Singapore
A practicing psychologist since 1985, Dr Lam Chee Meng graduated with a PhD in Psychology from the University of Auckland and was awarded a Postgraduate Fellowship under the post-graduate scholarship from the Medical Research Council in New Zealand.

Dr Lam has also been trained in various assessment methods and intervention techniques for improving cognitive functioning and behavioural management. After receiving training in instrumental enrichment and the learning potential assessment device in Jerusalem, Dr Lam has been incorporating the ideas and applications in his clinical work.

Dr Lam currently holds the position of Senior Consultant at the Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) and is a key consultant to Pathlight School, the first autism school in Singapore offering a unique blend of mainstream academics and life skills. Dr Lam is one of the principal consultants providing specialist autism training and coaching to professionals, teachers and educators as well as parents and caregivers in a wide variety of autism-related subjects.

Mrs Patricia Cheng

Consultant & Psychologist, Autism Resource Centre (S), Pathlight School and Eden School, Singapore
A practicing psychologist since 1986, Mrs Patricia Cheng graduated with a Masters of Science in School Psychology (USA). She has undergone advanced training in the approaches of Structured Teaching with Division TEACCH of the University of North Caroline, United States of America.

Mrs Cheng is trained in diagnosis and intervention treatment for individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She is certified to use the Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorder by Dr Lorna Wing/Dr Judith Gould from The Centre for Social and Communication Disorder in the United Kingdom.

Over the past 24 years, Mrs Cheng has worked with children with special needs in various clinical, school and community settings, with the last 15 years being focused on autism intervention, training, assessment and diagnosis.

Mrs Cheng currently holds the position of Consultant at Pathlight School, the first autism school in Singapore offering a unique blend of mainstream academics and life skills. She heads the Assessment and Diagnostic Unit and consults with the Early Intervention Unit in Autism Resource Centre (Singapore). Mrs Cheng is a valued member of the team to re-launch Eden School, a special school offering a vocational education pathway to children and youths with moderate to severe autism.

Ms Wong Yeok Lin

Consultant & Psychologist, Autism Resource Centre (S), Pathlight School and Eden School, Singapore
Ms Wong Yeok Lin is a registered psychologist with the Singapore Psychologist Society. She graduated with a Bachelor of Pschology (Honors) from the National University of Singapore and Masters in Child Development (Distinction) from Institute of Education, London, UK. She has also undergone advanced training in the approaches of Structured Teaching with Division TEACCH of the University of North Caroline, United States of America.

For the past 9 years, Ms Wong has worked, in a clinical capacity, with children of various special needs, in particular, children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In her clinical practice, she has incorporated and blended approaches to make intervention and learning programmes more meaningful and effective for children with autism.

Prior to joining the special needs field, Ms Wong has had 7 years of experience as a Senior Counselor in the Ministry of Defence. During that time, she counseled adolescents and young adults with adjustment difficulties. She has also tutored undergraduate students majoring in psychology in the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) Open University Programme.

Ms Wong currently holds the position of Consultant at Pathlight School, the first autism school in Singapore offering a unique blend of mainstream academics and life skills. She is the Head of Pathlight School's vocational track, a programme aimed at preparing students for future employment. Ms Wong is also a valued member of Autism Resource Centre (Singapore)'s team of consultants to Eden School, a special school offering a vocational education pathway to children and youths with moderate to severe autism.

Mrs Stephenie Khoo

Principal, WeCAN Early Intervention Programme (EIP), Autism Resource Centre (S), Singapore
Mrs Stephenie Khoo is the Principal of the WeCAN Early Intervention Programme (EIP)** of the Autism Resource Centre (Singapore).

At WeCAN EIP, she oversees the Early Intervention Programme as well as a curriculum research and development arm focusing on the development of a nation-wide scalable autism curriculum for young children with autism.
She has a Bachelor in Arts from the National University of Singapore, a Post Graduate Bachelor in Special Education from Monash University, Australia as well as a Masters in Applied Psychology (Educational Psychology) from National Institute of Education, National Technological University, Singapore.

Mrs Khoo has had eighteen years of experience in special education and was formerly the Principal of a special school.

** The WeCAN Early Intervention Programme has achieved global accreditation status awarded by the National Autistic Society of the United Kingdom since 2009.

Ms Michelle Ng

Autism Therapist, Autism Resource Centre (Singapore)
Ms Michelle Ng is an Autism Therapist and Associate Psychologist with Autism Resource Centre (Singapore).

She graduated from the University of Western Australia with double degrees - Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and Bachelor of Psychology.

Ms Ng has had extensive experience working with individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. She is responsible for writing and conducting therapy programmes and holiday enrichment programmes for individuals with ASD, including emotions management, perspective taking, group work skills, study skills and conversational skills.

Ms Ng is also involved in performing cognitive assessments of students with ASD, including Pathlight School students, for both Educational Placement and Examination Accommodation purposes. She has also provided training for parents, teachers, professionals and volunteers to en-skill them in their support and care of individuals with ASD.

Ms Loy Sheau Mei

Vice Principal (Academics), Pathlight School
Ms Loy Sheau Mei graduated from the Beijing Normal University with a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language & Literature. She has over twenty years of experience in educating primary and secondary school students. She is currently the Vice Principal (Academics) of Pathlight School, the first school in Singapore offering a unique blend of mainstream academics and life skills for students with autism.

Ms Loy's strengths are in customising mainstream curriculum and blending mainstream teaching pedagogy tools for students with autism in autism-friendly academic and non-academic settings.

Ms Loy also plays a key role in coaching and mentoring teachers in Pathlight School. She works collaboratively with parents, teachers and therapists to ensure her students obtain the best possible education outcomes. She also works directly with her students and takes a personal interest in ensuring that their potential is maximised.

Ms Loy is effectively bilingual in English and Chinese languages.
